About Boathouse Volleyball Club PDF Print E-mail

Boathouse Volleyball Club is based in Dewsbury, in the North of England. The club was formed in 1986 after sessions run by Andy Chattaway, of Kirklees Leisure Services, and interest from some members of the Yorkshire Dales Caravan Club. The club was originally called Phoenix Volleyball Club, due to sponsorship from one member's employer. In 1988 the club became Boathouse Volleyball Club, thanks to sponsorship from the Boathouse Bistro, Wilton Park, Birstall.

In 1990/91, the Boathouse Men's first team won the Yorkshire Premier League and The Mitre Cup. The second team were runners-up in the West Yorkshire League. And the club were accepted into the National Volleyball League. In 1990, a women's team were entered in the West Yorkshire Women's League and were quickly promoted into the Women's Yorkshire Premier League.

The club currently runs 6 teams at different levels, so we have a team to cater for all abilities. The Men's National League team currently plays in Division 3 North. The Men's Yorkshire Premier League team is primarily a feeder team for the National League side. The Women's Yorkshire Premier League squad is a happy mix of youth and experience. The club is committed to introducing volleyball to new players and we have a 2 mixed teams playing in the West Yorkshire league. This year the club also introduces a new junior team playing in the Yorkshire Junior league.
